Rest in peace

On Sept 16th, a great voice was silenced, Rest in peace Robert Jordan.

What follows are a few quotes from his work, I leave it to the reader to recognize the value of the statements and how they apply to the lifestyle and how we live and should live.

"All I have is a sword, and a war I cannot win, but I can never stop fighting."
"The Creator made women to please the eyes and trouble the mind."
"Duty is heavier than a mountain, death lighter than a feather."
"You can never know everything, and a part of what you know is always wrong. Perhaps even the most important part. A portion of wisdom lies in knowing that. A portion of courage lies in going on anyway."
"I'll never forget the first time Davram took me by the scruff of my neck and showed me he was the stronger of us. It was magnificent! If a woman is stronger than her husband, she comes to despise him. She has the choice of either tyrannizing him or else making herself less in order not to make him less. If the husband is strong enough, though, she can be as strong as she is, as strong as she can grow to be."

So rest in peace, and let your work stand on it's own merit now.

Why is that surprising\? Goreans are not limited to only reading the works of Norman. We do read other works. I read Plato, Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, Asimov, etc, etc.

It is surprising only in as much as it is always a pleasure to encounter someone with a modicum of taste. The wheel of Time Saga\'s celebrate women in a slightly different way to the Gor books. Unless you hanker for a Damane\? smiles .

Jordan, like Norman sometimes showed things being done wrong to show how far out of whack things can be, using them as an example of why it is not meant to be that way.

What sort of incidents are you referring to\? While I do not disagree I would say that most morality tales \(Good guys fight bad guys win through having the drive to do good and not fall to temptation\) contain the same themes. In WOT I would say that there is a less distinct division. The White Tower and Children of Light often are shown to do bad things for misplaced belief that they are some how saving the world. preventing it's fall. The ends justifies the means. Norman seems rather more clear cut, the darker aspects of man's nature, greed megalomania, seeking of power and wealth etc, is quite easily distinguishable. Even the free women that over step get their comeuppance. Yet at the same time he does explore and put forward a greater truth, imho, that of, if we lose our humanity we have truly lost everything and in a Rousseau-like fashion become slaves.
